*STEM to Stern Summer 2022!*

6 May 2022 by Sarah Pfau

Hello CRRC families,

Summer is approaching and CRRC has big plans! In addition to ‘Learn to Row’ camps, Junior team practices and regattas, and WeCanRow practices, we are adding STEM to Stern programming. CRRC is partnering with the University of Wisconsin Badger rowing teams and The Neighborhood House Community Center (https://neighborhoodhousemadison.org/ ) to provide rowing and STEM instruction to underserved youth in our community. With support from the national STEM to Stern organization (https://www.stemtosternrowing.org/ ), we are eager to offer this new program free of charge to Madison children.

Our Boathouse will be extra busy on Tuesdays in June and July. About 25 children grades 6-8 will join us for Learn to Row sessions with CRRC coaches and STEM instruction from Badger rowers. They will experience being part of a team, including an end of summer scrimmage. Children who enjoy rowing and would benefit from STEM to Stern programming have the opportunity to continue rowing this Fall. CRRC Board of Directors approved 4 STEM to Stern participants to join the Middle School team, and we hope a small group of children from The Neighborhood House will transition in September 2022.

Would you like to be involved with this program? We hope so! The following areas need your support:

JUNIOR TEAM ATHLETES: High school volunteers will help with youth activities (rowing lessons, STEM instruction, general help). If you would like to be considered for a ‘Volunteer Junior Coach’ position for STEM to Stern, please fill out this form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSc67BOMrtrXjN7pe436sP3_LpUuZvpQBZzWxn7a5tSySqxKXA/viewform?usp=sf_link
ADULTS: Adult volunteers will be helpful during S2S sessions. Maybe you would like to volunteer with your child? (see 1 above). If you are available, please indicate here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0848A5AD22A57-stem1
DONATIONS, SNACKS & SUPPLIES: STEM to Stern programming focuses on breaking down barriers that underserved children encounter when joining a rowing team. Barriers include transportation to the program, swimming skills, program fees and food. We are addressing barriers this summer and hope you can donate to help S2S participants. Sign up here to provide food, supplies and monetary donations: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0848A5AD22A57-stem1
SHOP: Visit our table at the CRRC Invite on April 30th. CRRC bracelets and STEM to Stern coffee will be available to purchase with proceeds benefiting S2S. Coffee is $20 per bag and is whole bean. If you want to purchase your bag ground (rather than whole bean) let Sarah Pfau know by 4/28 and it will be ready for you at the Invite (financial.aid@camprandallrc.org).
BUSINESS/CORPORATE DONATIONS: Would your business or employer contribute to CRRC’s STEM to Stern program? To continue programming this Fall and beyond, we’re asking for financial support to cover team fees and expenses. Please contact Sarah Pfau about business donations of any amount (phone 6082398551 or email financial.aid@camprandallrc.org).
INDIVIDUAL DONATIONS are always appreciated! To donate by check please make out to Camp Randall RC, PO Box 258160, Madison, WI, 53725-8160, and note it is for ‘STEM to Stern’. For additional donation options reach out to Sarah Pfau (financial.aid@camprandallrc.org).
In advance, THANK YOU for supporting CRRC’s STEM to Stern plans. Don’t hesitate to reach out to learn more about S2S. We’re excited to start this program and always willing to share details!

Best Regards,
